Has Gangnam style taken over the rest of the world as it has in Thailand?! I am very curious because it for sure has taken over Surat Thani, Thailand. If you have not seen the music video of Gangnam style and you have 4 minutes to spare and you need a good laugh, here it is-join the other 1.2 BILLION people to have watched it! The most viewed music video of all time. Remember the Macarena? It reminds Jarrett and me of that, a fun song with really dorky, but catchy dance moves. We didn’t “get” it the first time we watched it, since it’s in Korean and kind of off-the-wall, but I must admit it has taken hold, and we have been very guilty lately of holding many 4 person Gangnam style dance parties at our house:) Well, first here is the video and I will tell the rest of our day after-
It has become a family joke now, how many times are we going to hear Gangnam style when we go out? Our favorite restaurant has the music video on loop, so we get to hear and watch it the entire time we eat, while the workers bust out the moves in the back. The mall has some sort of show every week from car shows to slim centers, and every single one will have dancers come and put on Gangnam style. Even on Children’s Day multiple kids dance groups danced to the song. I have seen gray haired old men to little toddlers going Gangnam style.
So last night when we decided to go with Jarrett to work, I knew what we had to do. I downloaded Gangnam style to our ipod, packed our speakers and brought them with us today. We started out each of Jarrett’s 4 classes with the song, it was a blast. The kids went bizerk, it was really cute and a lot of fun. And we didn’t have to teach them a thing, as soon as the song started the took off!aren’t they all so cute!?
here is some video we took today of all the kids:)
If only we had fun teachers like Jarrett when we were in school maybe not so many dropouts! Love the pics. The kids really enjoyed the fun time and probably willing to work harder on their lessons because not stressed but relaxed. You go Jarrett!! Of course there is a fun wife * kiddoes w/him. Love you
thanks Granny, you are so right, the kids were so cute and paid attention so well after the song, it got all their energy out! love you so much
how fun…I am not going to say what I think they are saying on the music video…but it does NOT sound like “gangham”. Fell in love with all the pictures of the beautiful kids!
haha, Nancy that made me laugh:) and thanks about the pictures, the kids were really cute:)
We need a video of Jarrett dancing gundnam style!
agreed, i will get right on that!
It has absolutely taken off here in America. Psy has been on Ellen, Today Show, Award ceremonies, Betty Whites show and just about every other show a Celebrity could possibly be on. Even my baby is mesmerized by the video. Good times!
hehe, that is so funny:) I was really curious, thanks for the info! xoxo
Love this…looks like so much fun and burns some energy at the same time. The pictures of the kids are priceless:)!
thanks Jannette, it was totally priceless:)
LOL!!!!! That is the best video … Those kids are having so much fun. Jarret, you might go down as the finest teacher in history. It has taken off here in the states too and was number one in the charts all summer. Those now very famous moves might be the worlds best most energizing moves ever! Can’t dance like that without a smile on your face. Xoxo Shannon
yes Jarrett is so good with the kids:) we all like hanging out and watching him. the song is totally energizing and makes you smile:) xoxo
My 2 year old runs around the house singing “oopa cunnum star”
. It’s an original reworking of the lyrics in toddler lol. Also lots of pelvic thrusting in Korean. I’m sure our great grandparents would be proud!
haha, your comment made me laugh out loud!!! i love it:)
Me and the boys were cracking up!! I bet that was their favorite day of school ever. Y’all are so much fun! I really was hoping to see you and Jrock doing it too, I will put in my request now;) love y’all!
i know, it was pretty funny, come to Thailand and make the video with us!!! love you
I ‘m with Auntie! We need a video of you and Jarrett doing the gangham style!
haha, maybe we will, we just need a couple margaritas and a silly mood:)
i believe it’s gangNam instead of gangHam
but yes, Psy/gangnam style is huge in the US although the hysteria has starting to simmer down a bit w/ some people beginning to tire of it…but not this lady!
oh man, I just saw I totally misspelled it! hehe-thanks for telling me:) I totally get the tiring of it, but the Thais have not tired yet!
no prob.
and yes, I have a friend in Korea who said it’s still the rage there – they play it all the time, on tv, as advertising background music, etc.
How fun!!! I love the face on the little boy with all the girls behind him signing ‘I Love You’. Too funny!
i know, they are all so cute and full of life, I really like being around them:)
It is really impossible not to love it, isn’t it? : ) Thank you so much for joining us at Communal Global for Tuesday’s around the world. We sure are glad you were able to join! It is wonderful to see your world in Thailand.
hello! I had not heard of Communal Global, but I just looked at you website and think it is beautiful:) thanks for reading about our life in Thailand, it has been very interesting and amazing so far. xoxo ,Chelsea
That is Camden all.the.way. His school used the song for a Spirit Week chant and he goes bezerk every time he hears it…he would be right at home with Jarrett’s class. I have to admit, I’ve moved a little “awkward-mama-doesnt-know-what-she’s-doing” beat when nobody is looking
hehe, I would love to see your gangnam style:)
From Abby: that was a CRAZY video…but we kinda liked it. We like the kids, some of the kids were so cute. The pictures were really cute because we did not see some of those in the video. Do they call you Mrs.Ingram and Jarrett Mr. Ingram? How are you doing? Conner looks like Justin Bieber and its kinda craza!
he he
From Becky: Oh my gosh, the kids warmed my heart, Jarrett is an awesome teacher. I don’t know, but he may have found his calling! I too want to see a video of your family doing it…as a music video. The actual music video is ridiculous! That guy is kinda freaky. I guess on Maui it has not ‘taken off’ because I have never even seen the video
haha, that is so cute all that Abby said, yes it was crazy:) The kids call Jarett-Teacher J and me Teacher, even though, as Abby knows, I would be happy with them calling me Chelsea:) We are doing great and yes Conner is looking like the Biebs with his hair long:) love you Abby!
And Becky, thank you, Jarrett is really good at it. Yes-The guy is kinda of freaky, watch it a few more times and you will develop your own Vizthum Gangnam style-hehe:) love you guys-xoxo
How much fun is that to dance in school!!!? Thanks for sharing and for giving us all lots of laughs at these cute kids and the boys, Chelsea. I’ve even seen a mother and son do it on (maybe Ellen’s show?).
Your Ohio friend (it’s warmed up to 13 degrees now!),
Connie
first of all-13 degrees!!! that is crazy! and yes it was really fun for the kids to dance in school. I knew they would love it b/c Jarrett just went on a field trip with them the other day and they had dance parties on the bus-so cute:)
Great post, amazing pictures and I loved the video
Gangnam Style got to number 1 in the charts here in the UK, it has only just left the top 10! You either love it or hate it
haha, well so far we are loving it, even though we hear it a hundred times a day!
So cute. Loved the video.
thanks Lisa, it was a fun day!
Some things just defy borders…this song is one of those things! Absolutely awesome.
And man oh man I totally LOVE LOVE LOVE those fans on the wall…beautiful.
i know, it is so funny, I was suprised that a Korean song was so popular here, and then I realized that i that it was all over the world!
I just finished Jarrett’s book. Thank you again for sharing your lives and his story with us! Praying for you and your family!
thanks you so much Kathi for reading Following After Trek! thanks for the prayers-xoxo
How much fun! You were great to show the kids some fun and how wonderful of Jarrett to be such a fantastic teacher. I know they loved y’all being there and I know they absolutely love Jarrett ~ he is giving them something that no other teacher will. I vote we see a video of Jarrett dancing

My boys love it, too!
Op, op, op, op!
