We woke a couple days ago and realized that our Thailand visa was almost up. I have been trying to find the best way for us to get out of the country and get a new stamp and come back. We finally decided on Burma (Myanmar). Even though we live only about 3 hours from the closest point of Burma, it is over 7 hours away to the closest checkpoint for us to cross over to renew our visas. We almost took our mopeds, but I think my butt is still sore from our trip to Chiang Mai. So I was going to book us bus tickets, but then I realized that there is so much fun stuff to do up in Northern Thailand by Chiang Rai, so we decided to rent a car so we could explore and make a fun trip out of it.
It took us 6 hours to get to Chiang Rai today, on our way in we saw there was a mall. Where there is a mall in Thailand there is a Pizza Company-one of our favorite western restaurants in Thailand! (there was even one in Laos). We popped into the mall for some yummy food and to let the boys play on the indoor playground to get some energy out. We also picked up Peyton some shoes since we lost his only pair weeks ago and we were trying to not look too homeless. It was so nice to be in the A/C in the car and in the mall. There are no restaurants or stores in Pai with A/C and our house does not have it either (only 7-11 does so we get lots of slurpees).
We are staying at a family resort, and didn’t really know what to expect. We were so excited when we got here, there is so much to keep us busy, a pool, playground, and lots of board games. I think this is going to be a really fun 4 days. We have already settled in and have our belongings spread from one end of the house to the other. One of the days we will have to drive 1 hour to the Burma border and walk over and then walk back to get our visas stamped for 60 more days, I am hoping it is a simple and not-too-painful affair.
I just read there is a monkey cave nearby and I have heard about a beautiful white Temple that we want to visit. There is only internet in the lobby so I guess I will have to head to the local Starbucks (oh yeah baby!!!!) to upload pictures to the blog tomorrow. Iced Caramel Macchiatto here I come!
Enjoy your Iced Caramel Mocchiatto! And as always, be safe and have a good time.
Sound fun.. Enjoy
thank you so much Amanda!
Whoopie – Starbucks for Chelsea. Love you guys. Glad having fun – sore butts (whoops, sorry I forgot I wasn’t supposed to say that word) and all. My kids were not allowed to say that word or dummy either. Granny is slipping in her older years. When you are my age you can blame slip-ups on old age and get by w/it. Makes life more fun.
bahhahaha! I laughed out loud at your comment Granny!!! You are getting so naughty in your old age-I LOVE it:) and i love you-xoxo
Yippee … More adventures for us to share in from a far! Can’t wait for the Picts. Enjoy that Starbucks. Xoxo

I love that he was shoeless for a few weeks and that was no big deal. You guys have really found a way to create an idyllic life for your sons. Even if it can’t be forever, they will always remember the specials times you gave them and their brother.
thank you so much Robin, I thought it was kind of funny too when I realized that he needed some shoes for the trip and then I could not remember the last time I saw his! they are probably at some restaurant in town under the table still:)
Hey, I think I went to that park with all the monkeys. Bring a big stick!
haha, thanks Mike-we read your comment before we went so we did! so glad we did too-we had to use it to keep them away from biting us!
Yes, I remember actually being scared. We had bought bananas to feed the monkeys. They ran at us when we got there. Some had strange growths and glazed eyes. Like zombies. Anyway some local boys came to our rescue and safely took us to the Buddha cave. What an odd experience. Glad you survived too. Cheers!
haha! great story:) thanks for saving us from the same fate
You bet. Thanks for bringing back that memory.
