We had some friends visiting Chiang Mai from Maui and they invited us to come and visit them! We were so excited to get to see a familiar face and hug a real live friend, but we went back a forth for a little while. We wanted to see them so bad, but Chiang Mai is over 3 hours from Pai and through a twisting mountain road. We were not sure it was a good idea with kids, on a motorbike, or at all. We ended up saying, “what the heck” and going, it took us 7 hours by moped, but it was totally worth it! The drive was cold and long, but we were in high spirits and had so much fun. It was one of our best adventures so far.all geared up and ready to go: gas-check, icy coca-cola in the cup holder-check, ponchos-check, unrealistic giddiness-check
134 kilometers in the rain
I had to stop and buy some shades to block the rain (and so super cool and dorky)
on the drive a picture of the King and Queen
check point-we got stopped at a few of these, but they just asked where we were going
there are Buddhist spiritual houses randomly on the side of the highway
snack and potty break
crispy bacon I packed for a snack
Jarret and Conner zooming ahead-there is supposedly 762 curves from Chiang Mai to Pai-I believe it
driving through the clouds, Peyton thought this was so coolPeyton was in charge of letting me know how many miles were left
cows on the road
another check point
we stopped for a snack and to get out of the rain for a little bit
Peyton stepped on a nail while we were there, the nice lady that ran the store fixed him all up
all better and he put his shoes back on, he did not want to go barefoot anymore
she dotted on the boys the whole time we were there
we stopped for a warm lunch
we ordered Pad thai, chicken noodle soup, and chicken and rice
it took so long to get down the mountain because the road was wet and the curves were sharp, but it was so beautiful
a mudslide on the highway! it was fixed when we came back 3 days later
i thought this was so creative how they built this road sign
we passed this cool house that was built into the side of the mountain
potty break #2
many beautiful Buddhist temples on the drive
such an amazing drive
i had to pull over and take a picture of this sky-it reminded Peyton and I of Trek
one more snack break before Chiang Mai
the man’s shop had so much cool stuff in it we stayed for 15 minutes just checking it all out
his jogging trophies (i didn’t know you could get a trophy for jogging!)
i finally have a use for all my coke cans (you too mama and the amanda’s)
because that is how all us women carry around our beer
the Thai shaka
this is what 6 hours in a moped makes your hair look like
we made it to Chiang Mai!
in the big city, waiting behind Jarrett at a red light
this place was crazy!!! glad we learned to drive mopeds in the quiet country first
Jarrett my hero! a well-deserved fist pump, he found our hotel in the big city!
You guys are my heros!! I love that you did that trip, what a difference when you got to Chiang Mai, huh?! How long did it take you to get back UP to Pai??
Mary it barely took 3 hours! It was hot and sunny so no rain and going up hill was way safer than going down hill so we were booking it, we were going 60 km the entire way up and about 20 k/hr on the way down riding our brakes. We also did not really stop on the way back up and didn’t sightsee since we had already seen it all and could not wait to get home!
and yes Chiang Mai was CRAZY ! it was drive or die!
I bet the drive was just AWESOME…GREAT pictures. BTW…I am going to visit Amanda & the boys today!!!!!!!
i am so jealous!!! have fun Patti and give the boys smooches for me! xoxo
What an adventure!! Y’all are so cool!! Looks like a great time!!
thank you so much! it was so much fun, i am so glad we took the plunge and did it!
Whoa! I have been waiting for this post since you mentioned it a couple of posts back. My booty would have been seriously sore! looks like a fun trip though!
haha, i know Liz- it was a little sore, but like you said it was so much fun!!!
LOVED this post!!! The pink poncho and helmet outift is stylin’!!
haha, thanks Rebecca, I would have never thought I would buy and wear a poncho!!!
You totally rocked it!!
thank you so much Rebecca!
wow you have the best outlook, all of you, I might have whined a bit;) And you still look super cute even after a 7 hour moped ride! What a fun trip! Your boys are such troopers too. Love you and miss you! Tell Peyton i’m sorry about his foot:(
you wouldn’t have whined with me-you would have been having too much fun! wish you were here-love you so much, I will let Peyton know you are sad about his foot-xoxo
You guys are awesome!! Chelsea you rock as a mother!
Amanda
oh Amanda! thank you so much ! that is so kind and sweet-xoxo
that is so amazing you were brave enough to make that trip. I am so impressed with your boys for being able to sit on a moped for that long. I love following your blog, it is so much fun. You are very inspiring and such a wonderful mother!
thank you so much Maile, it was a long trip but for some reason it did not feel that long, I think because we were just so excited and it was all new. On the way back it was only 3 hours and my butt hurt way worse! I think b/c I wanted to be home so bad! thanks for following our blog sweet mama-xoxo
All I can say is “WOW” Glad you got to see your friends. Love you.
thanks MawMaw it was definately an adventure! love you too
Oh my ~ where to start? What an incredible journey…I’m so proud of all of you for making it! You are super, super cute in your helmet, pancho & glasses and I’m not being sarcastic. You should’ve had Peyton counting the curves instead of the distance! Cows, check points, trecherous curves, mudslides…..y’all were very brave & I’m happy you made it back safely. I hope the nail wasn’t rusty….Peyton cracked me up how he was still eating his chips like “no biggie, just do what you gotta do & I’ll have my snack”. What a lovely “Trek” sky. I love the poster of the lady with her “beer holster”….too funny! Way to go Jarrett!!! You do deserve a fist pump! Love y’all!
oh Aunt Jalene thank you, it was a big deal for us to go and I am so proud we did it too! thanks for my compliments in my dorky ensemble-you are so sweet:) the nail was not too rusty, but if the cut was deep I would been worried and took him to the hospital to check for tetanus, but it was a tiny scrap, so we were not worried. I thought he was so funny to just chillin while she doctored him up-these boys crack me up! I think you would look good with the beer holster:) love you
Wow–very impressive–a HUGE trip, although my bottom is only good for a couple of hours on those (couldn’t imagine doing 7!)!!
thank you so much! it was a lot of fun and I was not near as sore as I thought I would be, I think because we were just so excited to be doing it the adrenaline took over:)
First off, how are you able to take such fabulous photos in those conditions? Btw, I finally got a nice camera but I’m still learning to use it. Any tips? Hehe.

Second, you 4 are the bravest people I know. Peyton lives up to his book name, Brave.
Third, I was thinking of Trek a lot today. Then I saw this post and it made me smile. Your everyday life is a tribute to precious Trek.
Much love from the Veronis.
thank you about the photos, having a nice camera makes all the difference. I had to of my friends that are professional photographers tell me the same thing-set the mode to A or AV (whichever you camera has). I am not sure what they put the settings on under AV. They set it for me and I have never touched it again. It helps make the subject very clear and washes out the background if you like it like that. And thank you so much about us being brave, it did feel so adventurous that day, I am so glad we did it-I felt so alive!
thanks for thinking of my baby. xoxo
Chelsea, you look beautiful as always!
I Love You
awww thank you so much daddy-i love you too, can’t wait to see you again.
